@ Olya

Are you sure this is a good translation of "What a hype!"?

Olya Olya 2014-08-25 23:39 link permalink

@ carlosalberto
Absolutely. I guess this phrase has more than one meaning (context plays a big role).
hype - лицемерие, шумиха, реклама, нечто раздутое и пр., hypocrisy - лицемерие
- Did Tom really say that? Those exact words? / Том что, правда такое сказал? Именно эти слова?
- Yes, he did. / Да.
- What a hype! / Какое лицемерие!
And how would you translate this expression?
Thank you in advance.

@ Olya

I'm not an expert in the English language.
I've just found the following on the Internet:

HYPE

. blatant or sensational promotion
. Extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion: 'she relied on hype and headlines to stoke up interest in her music'
. A deception carried out for the sake of publicity

On the other side: hypocrisy - лицемерие

Do you see what I mean?

I've checked several dictionaries and none of them defines "hype" as "hypocrisy"/"лицемерие", I'm afraid. In the example above I'd translated "hype" as "deception" - обман.

I corrected. Thank you! :)
